yeah, the kids ran out of money so the parents brought them some. we dont see every conversation that takes place because its a span of a month in a 2 hour movie. they probably talked to their parents at some point.

In the book by Gilbert Adair, which the movie follows quite to a T, the parents come back to see if the kids are all right because they are aware about the rioting and strikes that are going on in Paris. Of course the kids don't know this because they have isolated themselves inside- this is what leads to the ending, with them finging out everything that they missed in Paris, everything that they supposedly stood for (at least Theo).
